Delicate and tender, Alice Phoebe Lou’s newest single feels like an intimate letter. In it, she asks a lover to forget the past and embrace a future together. With dreamy vocals and stripped back instrumentation, Lou manages to craft a soundscape that feels both raw and ethereal. The track gently unfolds, allowing each lyric to linger like a whispered confession, highlighting Lou’s signature vulnerability.

“‘You and I’ speaks of longing and surrendering in love, it’s a confession and a prayer, a declaration that this is where we are and want to be and let’s stop holding back and dive deeper into everything together,” shared Lou about the song. “It asks the other to let go of what has happened before and to be here now and dream up the future together. It’s about telling one another what our needs are so we can be there for each other in a deeper, more fundamental way.”

Born in South Africa, Lou’s musical journey truly started when she moved to Germany, performing on street corners. “I became who I am in Germany, and busking was a big influence, the basis for everything I’ve done,” said Lou. “Now I’m paying tribute to the girl that bravely played the guitar and sang by herself, showing gratitude for that period of my life.”

Lou has come a long way from the start of her career, supporting Clairo on her Charm tour last year, and recently opening for Remi Wolf at Red Rocks Amphitheatre. Lou also recently announced a partnership with Nettwerk Music Group.

Self-produced by Lou, “You and I” is a brief track, but manages to wrap listeners up in a warm ug. “After five band records, I’ve opened my treasure chest of personal storytelling songs that I’ve built up over a decade. Songs that didn’t make it into other albums, some songs I never thought would see the light of day. I am embarking on the brave and thrilling journey of recording these songs as they are, with love and playfulness, simple and all my own. Leaning into imperfection and taking inspiration from some of my biggest influences who have made timeless folk acoustic albums,” shared Lou about the song. “It was important to share my heart in this playful, gentle, vulnerable way that isn’t striving for perfection. That helped me focus on the song and what it needed,” she says. “Being so open is painful and it’s beautiful, and helps you be grateful for where you are and where you’re going.”
